Pa & Ma (Christmas of 2009)

Ah, feels like high school all over again.

Lubitel 166B

I purchased this Russian TLR (Twin Lens Reflex) last month and I never took it out of the box until today. I have completely forgotten about it. Yes, very typical of me. I apologize.

I don't know how to use it yet so I decided to play around with it in the meantime.

I'm sorry

I have been busy with school and completely forgotten to update this blog.

These pictures are from last night's event at school. There were a lot of people gathered for the Christmas lights show even though it was snowing heavily.

Portrait Within a Portrait

Communicate, No. 1

I've been making portraits within a portrait as of late. Beats me why I do it.

Downtown Vancouver

Foggy Weekend

From last weekend's road trip to Vancouver, British Columbia.

We were greeted by heavy rain and severe fog. It was almost like stepping into Stephen King's The Mist!

Communicate

Communicate, No. 1

"There must be a reason why photographers are not very good at verbal communication. I think we get lazy". - Annie Leibovitz

Communicate, No. 2

"I still need the camera because it is the only reason anyone is talking to me". - Annie Leibovitz

Before Oz

Before Oz

When Dorothy stood in the doorway and looked around, she could see nothing but the great gray prairie on every side. . . The sun had baked the plowed land into a gray mass, with little cracks running through it. Even the grass was not green, for the sun had burned the tops of the long blades until they were the same color gray to be seen everywhere.

-L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

And then some

Right now, I have hit a plateau stage on my photography and as I continue to look and study at old photographs, I realized that I have not appreciated a whole lot of my own effort. I have left out a large number of "unpublished" photographs to remain in their dated folders because I thought back then that they were "not good enough."

But what is something that is "good enough?"

I don't know. I am certainly not a scholar of such things and the following photographs are a testament to that.

Here are some of them in a panoramic format that I have been experimenting with:

The Lockless Door

I found myself rummaging through some of my old photos from 2007 and this door of an old church stood out as my favourite.

It could be the oldness to it that attracted me. The crisp cracks, the old wood stain, the intricate relief. And there of course is the door.

Doors lead us in or drag us out.

I hope my door is in close reach to where I am now in life. Being lost is very tiring.

On being lost

A wave of consequences has found its way to me.

Perseid Meteor Shower

I heard about the meteor shower from my mom this morning and so I went out of the house around 2 AM with my brothers and we've spotted a few of them. The beautiful aurora borealis was in sight too.
